What is grace?

The Webster Dictionary defines grace in a number of different ways. In relation to this offering, the closest definition is : unmerited divine assistance given to humans for their regeneration or sanctification. What does that mean? In essence I have come to understand grace as the direct - and sometimes indirect - role of the divine in my own life. The way in which things come together, or sometimes fall apart, in order to promote, foster, instigate, or invoke healing, growth, knowledge and awakening. Grace's impact on our life is not always 'nice' but it is always kind. It serves as a benevolent force guiding us in the direction of our ultimate freedom and lasting fulfillment : the hallmarks of a fully realized human life.

In this round of WE RISE we will orient both our practice of meditation and our engagement with contemplation toward a greater awareness of the presence of grace inour lives. We will explore what grace looks and feels like, how to develop gratitude and true contentment based on our relationship with grace, and to genuinely adopt the perspective that thanks to grace, everything in life is happening for us, rather than to us. This shift helps us transition from a position of victimhood to one of true power. It gives us back our sense of agency and inspires us to reengage more intentionally with life.

WE RISE is a recurring 28-day daily guided group meditation practice. Each 'round' of WE RISE focuses on a different theme - all of which support the tenets of Tantric Yogic philosophy. The practices all orient toward Vishoka Meditation stages one and two, including the preparatory techniques rooted in the foundations of healthy breathing.

We open each practice with a few minutes of candle gazing, stating our collective resolve, and chanting the Himalayan Tradition's daily prayers. We then practice various techniques of pranayama culminating in an opportunity to experience a state of meditation. At the conclusion of the practice we hang out together for a while longer to reflect on specific contemplation questions and chat about our experience.

I love offering WE RISE for many reasons. It gives me an opportunity to drop into my own practice with a nourishing blend of duty and love. I am also exceedingly fond - and proud - of our international community of meditators. It is a collection of humans committed to their own spiritual growth as well as supporting that of every other member of the group. Every day we gather I am filled with gratitude for their compassion, their tenacity, and their genuine acceptance of one another's humanity.

You will be a welcome addition to our community.
