Prana is the primordial ripple of the life force, beginning-less and unending. Self-intelligent, it is the vibrant force that breathes life into matter. Prana is not our creation, we are its creation. As human beings, we have been given the power and privilege to further awaken and gather this force and thus fill ourselves with a higher degree of vigor, vitality, strength, stamina and intelligence.

We accomplish this through the practice of pranayama.

.     .     .     .     .     .

Pranayama can be defined as the methods we use to harness prana.

Pranayama is often understood as ‘breath work,’ or ‘yogic breathing techniques.’ While a conscious relationship with our breath can be an effective way of practicing pranayama, we are certainly not limited to that.

If we truly understand prana as the intelligent and benevolent force behind all movement - physical and subtle - even the movement of one thought giving way to the next; of growth and transformation; then we must to intuit that prana reaches far beyond the breath.

As yoga practitioners we are given a variety of means to work in partnership with this powerful force. Yes, through the breath, but also through asana - the physical postures, techniques like bandha and mudra, recitation of mantra, even intention impacts our ability to shape prana.

Before we begin to work with the power of prana in a meaningful way we must learn the ways in which it flows in our daily life. Prana pulsates in, through, and around us all the time. It governs all of our bodily functions both gross and subtle. Conscious engagement with prana grants us the ability to improve our quality of life from the most mundane level to the most sacred. This workshop is designed to help you do just that.

.     .     .     .     .     .

In Power and Flow we will explore five primary directions in which prana flows, the five ‘winds’ as they are called in yoga, and the powers each of these ‘winds’ govern. The Sanskrit word for wind is ‘vayu’. The vayus govern our powers of reception, assimilation, elimination, evolution and integration.

.     .     .     .     .     .

How able are we to receive love, nurturance, guidance, help?

How thoroughly do we glean the nutrients from our food, the lessons from life’s trials?

Are we willing and able to let go of past hurts, grudges, or regrets?

Do we have the will to evolve, overcome, and express our truth freely in the world?

How whole do we feel? How well do we navigate life’s circumstances? Do we feel we belong?

These are just a few questions to help assess the significance of the Prana Vayus and the power they have in our lives. If any of these questions leave you feeling as though your experience of life is less than optimal, we invite you to learn how to engage in your yoga practice in a way which will facilitate growth and transformation.

.     .     .     .     .     .

Join us at Ambient for our first ever weekend-long in-depth exploration of some of the more subtle and powerful methodologies available to us through the yoga tradition. Empower yourself with greater knowledge and a direct experience of their efficacy, which you can continue to develop for years to come through your ongoing practice.

In five sessions offered over the course of the weekend, we will explore each of the Vayus from an intellectual perspective, and then experience them through a practice consisting of asana, savasana, pranayama, mantra, mudra and meditation.

You will leave with a more expansive understanding of the remarkable role yoga can play in helping you create the life of your dreams.

This workshop is ideal for anyone with a solid knowledge of their yoga practice, an appreciation for the positive impact it already has on their life, and a curiosity about ‘what else’ yoga has to offer. Trust us when we tell you, you are just scratching the surface.
